The Problem

Guerlain’s current visual identity leans into modern design, but its connection to heritage and craftsmanship is less apparent, limiting how clearly it communicates its core values of luxury, tradition, and sustainability.
Guerlain’s visual identity has aligned with modern design trends, which diminishes its connection to its rich heritage and artisanal craftsmanship. This shift reduces the effectiveness of communicating the brand’s core values of luxury, tradition,
and sustainability.

Guerlain’s current visual identity leans into modern design, but its connection to heritage and craftsmanship is less apparent, limiting how clearly it communicates its core values of luxury, tradition, and sustainability.

The Solution

Art Nouveau elements inform a distinctive typography and cohesive visual system, bridging Guerlain’s heritage with a contemporary design strategy across interfaces and packaging.

Context

Guerlain’s Mission Statement

To create luxurious beauty and fragrance products, blending heritage with innovation. Guerlian is committed to sustainability and using nature’s finest ingredients to enhance well-being, celebrating individuality while caring for people and the planet.

Process

Creating the Logotype

  • Golden yellow for a luxurious hue. Inspired by the successful fragrance line “The Bee Bottle” with the significant bee motif
  • Tall, elongates shapes with clean curves to portray elegance, refinement, and resemble hand-crafted lettering
  • The slightly flared serif design combines timeless appeal with a resemblance to organic forms.
  • Kerning enhances readability by providing breathing room between each letter. Some areas vary in space, creating a crated quality
